ZONE 5. How Things Fly

Aerospace Museum's Aviation Principles Experience Center

Learn aviation principles through over 40 experiential contents.
This is a special educational experience space where visitors cna learn about various flight principles, such as lift, drag, and thrust, by operating the equipment themselves

Start (What Is Needed to Fly?)

Learn more about the basic elements of flight: weight, drag, lift and thrust.

Gravity & Air

Find out what you weigh on other planets. Use the experiment equipment to learn more about gravity and atmosphere.

Lift & Drag

Use the experiment equipment to learn about the principles of lift and understand how drag works at subsonic speeds.

Flying Faster than the Speed of Sound

Find out how sound, shockwave, drag and other conditions change when the aircraft reaches the speed of sound. The word “Supersonic” means that you are flying faster than the speed of sound and the concept here is substantially different from slow-speed flight.

Thrust

Thrust provides forward movement in reaction to drag to maintain lift. This is an important element that influences acceleration, ascent and also control.

Gravity & Zero Gravity: Space Travel

Find out more about gravity in space and the factor that gives you control of a spaceship: thrust.
